Hello family and friends,
The
purpose of this letter is to inform you of an awesome opportunity I have to
serve the Lord. This fall I plan to take a semester off from study at UCF to
work on the mission field. My home church,
Covenant Presbyterian Church in Palm Bay, Florida, supports an amazing man of
God, Khen Tombing, who serves on the field in India. Khen works with the organization Presbyterian
Missions International, and in the past twenty years has planted 55 churches
with over 10,000 communing members, started Christian schools, and an built annorphanage.
Khen is a native of India who attended seminary in America and is actively
using the churches, schools, and orphanage to help bring the gospel to people
in India.
This Fall I have the great
opportunity to serve with his ministry and experience what it is like to work
on the mission field. My primary ministry will be teaching math in a Christian
School, where I will interact with hundreds of kids from all different
religious backgrounds daily, and get to show them Christ’s love. Khen would
also like me to teach in the surrounding villages where there are no schools. I
can also be involved in the church planting ministry by playing drums for the
worship band and working with the youth group. I can help to reach kids in the
town or surrounding villages in the sports outreaches. Khen also wants to start a band in the school
and said that he could use me to teach drums. He really needs Christian role
models my age, so the opportunities are endless. He wants me to try a little of
everything to see how I most want to share the gospel with the people of India.
Nothing excites me more than the story of Jesus and His grace in my life and I
feel called to share it with the people of the world. I can’t wait to do this every
day.
This
semester long trip and daily pursuit to show Christ’s love to these people
can’t come without one thing for sure and that’s prayer. I will need prayer for
strength to stay healthy. I need prayer
for patience when things don’t go as planned and when the language seems to be
a barrier between me and the people. I need prayer for readiness to go in
uncomfortable places and share the gospel even when it’s not easy. I need prayer
to not just help the people that are easy to reach, but to have a heart like
Jesus for the hard to reach. The thing I need the most prayer for is the desire
to keep filling myself up with daily time with God when I’m there so that God’s
love may overflow and will be shown through me every day. Prayer is what will
keep me going before and during the trip so please if you could pray for me
that’d mean the world to me.
I will also need to raise about $3000 for my
airfare, visa, shots, etc. Even though
that is the only money Khen has asked me to raise to go on this trip, I want to
go beyond that. When I felt God calling me to go do missions work with this
ministry, I felt him calling me to make an even bigger difference. I want to
raise money to build a church for a congregation that is too large to be a
“house church” anymore. In that country a church can be built for as little as
$10,000. I trust God can do it. If I can raise support for none of the church
or all of it, I know it was God’s plan, but I hope we can really bless the
people with a place to worship. If you feel led to support me financially with
my expenses or with my church building fund, I’d really appreciate it. A tax-deductible
check can be mailed to 1020 Oak Tree Place, Malabar, Florida, made out to
Covenant Presbyterian Church, with Missions-Mark Volz in the memo line.
I hope that you can
join me in my journey to share the gospel in India, by praying and/or
supporting me financially. Contact me with any questions at markvolzmissions@aol.com.
